Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the online adoption application form on our website, which can be found in our website menu under Forms/Applications. Click the link, then click "Fill Out Form" next to the adoption application. This way we will have all of your contact information and the dog you are interested in on file. Thanks!
The adoption fee is $50 for dogs and includes vaccination and deworming along with microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law. You must sign a contract stipulating that you will spay/neuter the the dog within 30 days of the adoption, or 6 months of age whichever comes first.
We have negotiated special shelter rates at two local vets, Dr. Abby Deuel in Salem, IL and Flora Vet Clinic. As often as possible, we get shelter dogs spayed/neutered prior to adoption. When we do so, we ask for the reduced shelter rate spay/neuter fee in addition to the adoption fee. The shelter rates range from $55-70 for male dogs and $75-90 for female dogs. We also get a reduced rate rabies shot at the time of spay/neuter and ask for this fee as well. Rabies vaccine cost is reduced to $5 at Dr. Abby and $8 at Flora Vet.
Kittens under six months old are only $40 and Cats over six months of age are only $20 for a spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped cat or kitten. These fees don't cover our expenses, but we are still subsidizing cat adoptions to get them placed in homes.
The Clay County Animal Shelter is located at 14400 Hwy. 45 in Louisville, IL. Their phone number is 618-665-3005. Their hours are Monday-Friday 10:00-4:00, with open to the public hours from 1-3 M-F and 1-4 on Sundays. We have adoption events every first and third Saturday from 10-2 at Orscheln Farm and Home in Flora.
