Lulu is part of a litter of  aussie puppies relinquished to the shelter.  Lulu is blind or almost entirely blind (might be able to see high contrast shapes) and deaf, which is a result of a double merle cross.   Little Lulu is going on ten weeks old and loves to cuddle, play with toys, wrestle with her sisters and brother and go for "mini walks" where she goes charg ing along with remarkable confidence. She can make her way back to us with uncanny skill, which we can't figure out if it is scent alone or if she can detect our outlines. Whatever the case, it is shocking to see how well she manages. She is the softest little fuzz ball and a delight to pet. She likes to get close and chew on shoe laces, like all good puppies. She is looking for a very special home to love and care for her.

Being blind and deaf doesn't slow little Lulu down one bit, but she does need a fenced in yard and an owner that can see past his immediate cuteness as a puppy to a lifetime of committment.  Aussies are HIGHLY trainable, so she should learn touch signals just fine.

We require an approved application before setting up appointments to see the puppies.  Adoption applications can be found on our website under forms applications.  www.claycountyshelter.com.

The Clay County Animal Shelter is located at 14400 Hwy. 45 in Louisville, IL. Their phone number is 618-665-3005.  The shelter is open to the public 1-3 M-F.   Sundays we are open 1-4 to the public.  We have adoption events every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 10-2 at Orscheln's in Flora.  If those times don't work, please call to set up a time to visit.

The adoption fee is $50 for dogs and includes vaccination (one shot of 5 way for adult dogs and two shots of 5 way two weeks apart for puppies as well as deworming) as well as microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law. On dogs we have spayed/neutered, we ask for the spay/neuter fee to be covered as well.  We get a shelter rate for spay/neuter, so our rates are $55-70 for male dogs and $75-90 for female dogs.

All cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption.  Kittens (under six months of age) are $40.  Cats older than six months are $20.  It costs us more than that to spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm the kittens and cats, but we subsidize the adoption fees to help save cat and kitten lives.

Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter is located at 375 Water Elm Lane, Flora, IL. Our phone number is 618-665-3005.  We are renovating our shelter so hours are by appointment only.

The typical adoption fee for dogs is $150.  It includes vaccination, deworming , spay/neuter, heartworm testing on dogs of age and microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law.  Some dogs we discount to as little as $50 due to sponsorship.  Some dogs we ask a higher adoption fee, which helps us recoup expenses on heartworm treatment on other dogs.

All cats are spayed/neutered/vaccinated/flea treated/dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption.  Cat adoption fees range from $60-$100.  We spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm all kittens and cats, prior to adoption.  Our shyer/less adoptable cats are classed as "barn cats" and are free with a completed/approved barn cat application, which can be found on our website.
